EYP Sessions and Events
7th National Session
The National Session is the biggest annual event organised by EYP Cyprus. The session activities highlight the importance of teamwork, dialogue and cooperation and provide the young participants with an invaluable, eye-opening experience. After the Pre-selection Days, a two-day debating conferece which is organised in April, an independent jury selects the best school delegations to attend the National Session. The session gathers over 100 students from across Cyprus, who are then divided into 10 committees, are given a unique educational opportunity to discuss current European topics and come up with their own resolutions to these problems. This experience enables them to understand how the political world works not only at a national but also at a European level.
With 2013 named the ´European Year of Citizens´, the central theme of the 7th National Session of EYP Cyprus, “Defy indifference, Shape tomorrow”, will focus on raising awareness and provoking discussions on the rights and benefits that come with EU citizenship.
The session will provide its young participants with a platform to build, shape and voice how they want their future to look like. The delegates will discuss topics on civil rights and duties, consumer rights, social security and other, and form resolutions with their proposed solutions to these burining issues. They will then debate and vote upon these resolutions in a parliamentary General Assembly that follows the model of the European Parliament. The even is therefore a unique opportunity to empower European identity and strengthen the citizen dimension amongst young people, while encouraging the youth of Cyprus to engage in shaping its future.
The 7th National Session is Head-organised by Soloans Karoullas and Helena Pierides.
Session President: Sophie Scannell (IE)
