In 2006, the EYP decided to create its own Think Tank series to offer the opportunity for active engagement to its alumni who are often outstanding students or successful young professionals in politics, business or academia.

In its first year the Think Tank drafted suggestions for the "Berlin Declaration" six months prior to the actual draft and presented them to Commission President Barroso at a public event. In 2007 The Think Tank developed recommendations for Commissioner Ferrero-Waldner who welcomed the EYP´s input on the future of the European Neighbourhood Policy in the MEDA region. In 2008 we addressed the future of the EU´s external trade policy for the then Trade Commissioner, Catherine Ashton.

Last year the Think Tank met in Berlin from December 11 - 13. The topic of the Think Tank was "Learning from the past to build the future: What strategy should the European Union and its member States adopt to ensure ecologically and socially sustainable economic growth in the 21st Century?"
